May 13th marks the 39th anniversary of the May 13, 1985 bombing of The MOVE Organization by the Philadelphia police, which resulted in the tragic loss of 11 MOVE members and the destruction of two blocks in the Cobbs Creek community of West Philadelphia.

The 2024 annual commemoration is a special week-long event that will launch The MOVE Activist Archive’s first exhibit, “MOVE: The Old Days,” and raise funds for the Reclaim Osage campaign.

May 13, 1985 changed our community forever. Join us in honoring the 11 lives tragically lost and the broader Cobbs Creek community of residents.

May 12: Osage Avenue Block Clean Up

10 AM MOVE Historic Marker (Osage Avenue and Cobbs Creek Parkway)

Join us in showing love to the Cobbs Creek community with a block clean-up and food distribution.

May 13: MOVE Day of Remembrance

5 PM MOVE Historic Marker (Osage Avenue and Cobbs Creek Parkway)

We will never forget! Join us in honoring join us in honoring the lives lost and changed forever with a commemoration of the events that led to the tragedy on May 13, 1985.

MOVE: The Old Days is The MOVE Activist Archive’s first exhibit featuring never-before-seen MOVE historical artifacts, including unpublished political writings, prison correspondence, audio and video recordings, and the personal artifacts of MOVE members.

May 16: Special Viewing of “MOVE: The Old Days”

6:30 PM Paul Robeson House and Museum (4951 Walnut Street)

A private tour of the exhibit will be guided by Mike Africa Jr. followed by a panel discussion with special guests.

Tickets are available for purchase and all proceeds benefit Reclaim Osage.

May 18-19: Guided Tours of “MOVE: The Old Days”

1-7 PM Paul Robeson House and Museum (4951 Walnut Street)

We will offer guided tours at 1 PM, 2:30 PM, 4 PM, and 5:30 PM guided by curators Mike Africa Jr. and Krystal Strong.
